My Dirndl Calendar: More Work Than You’d Think

A dirndl calendar. The idea had been with me for a long time; for years I kept planning it again and again. My goal was to bring it out for 2026, and in the end I made it. A few pictures, twelve models, one calendar. Sounds simple. It wasn’t quite that simple, though.

A dip into the archive

I didn’t have to start from scratch. I already had a few photos, some of them from my extensive archive.

Models wanted

For some of the photos, though, I was still missing the right models. So I put out model calls. In the end there were twelve models, and I found all twelve myself. It was also important that every model had a dirndl. I even had to get some of the dirndls myself.

The real work

Anyone who thinks a calendar like this is mainly about taking pictures is mistaken. The real work was the organisation, and there was more of it than you’d imagine. It was an enormous effort to find dates for the shoots in between all the other appointments, and on top of that the right models who ended up in the calendar. How many hours the shoots, the picture selection and everything else took before the pictures could go into the calendar is impossible to calculate. But in the end you are proud when a project like this is finished.

The dirndl calendar is available on Amazon (opens in a new tab) for every year.
